The Unconquerable Spirit: Why Arrogance Fears the Culture of Martyrdom
Reflections from Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani on the blood that preserves Islam and the legacy that shatters oppression.
In an era defined by material conflict, the true strength of the resistance lies not in weaponry, but in a profound spiritual heritage. Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani has issued a stirring reminder that the culture of martyrdom remains the single greatest threat to global arrogance and Zionism.
In a message honouring the 892 Basiji martyrs of Markazi Province, the senior jurist illuminated the timeless power of sacrifice. He noted that while enemies may possess superior physical arsenals, they are paralysed by a force they cannot understand: the willingness of the faithful to sacrifice everything for a higher truth. It is this motivation, he argues, that strikes fear into the hearts of oppressors more than ever before.
The Guardian of the Faith The scholar emphasised that the survival of Islam through centuries of adversity is directly owed to those who gave their lives for it.
“What has been able to preserve Islam from the beginning until now is the blood of these dear martyrs,” Ayatollah Hamedani stated.
He recalled the divine promise attached to this path, reminding the faithful that the “explicit promise of Paradise” belongs to this high-ranking group.
Drawing from Islamic tradition, he highlighted the singular status of this sacrifice:
“Every act of worship is superior to itself, except for martyrdom.”
It is the apex of devotion, a transformative act that transcends standard worship.
A Living Legacy However, the Ayatollah’s message was not merely a eulogy for the past, but a directive for the present. To truly honour the martyrs is not just to remember their names, but to emulate their purpose. Preserving the culture of martyrdom requires active engagement with their ideals:
Upholding Dignity: Martyrs strove for the dignity of the people, seeking a life of true security and comfort free from subjugation.
Recognizing the Enemy: Their path was defined by a clear understanding of who the oppressor is and a refusal to bow to arrogance.
Defending Islam: Ultimately, their blood was shed to bring honour to the faith and the Muslim Ummah.
As arrogance and Zionism continue their campaigns, the shield against them remains the same as it has always been. By studying the wills of the martyrs and acting on their instructions, the living keep the flame of resistance alive, ensuring that the blood spilled in the past continues to defend the future.
